Snow for Boxing Day - Vífillstaðurvatn

Pictures are at the bottom...

The entire christmas period I'd been extremely lazy. Lots of sitting in bars, chatting, watching movies, staying up late, alternately gorging myself and starving myself, just generally being hard on my body.

It was time to get out, and after my last experience on Esja, today's low clouds weren't encouraging a repeat. I headed out to Garðabær and my old stomping grounds instead, and went for a walk around Vífillstaðurvatn instead. Had a nice walk around in the snow, with a lot more people than I expected. Boxing Day, like the 23rd, and unlike Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, had plenty of fresh snow. Made for a nice walk. Soft sticky stuff. Perfect for footprints, and not too cold.

After walking around the lake, I drove around into the Heiðmörk area, amongst the trees. Just after I pulled in, (in my little micra into a snowy carpark filled with big Jeeps) I watched a kid do some tackle practise on a snowman, and decided I needed to make one as well.

So much fun! Roll Roll Roll you go! Last time I remember having proper snow to make snowmen with was in Stanthorpe, when I was primary school, and my family had made a snap trip out there just to see snow! Since then I've always either made snowballs or just been too buzy skiing.

A fun day, not much exercise, but got outdoors again.

(Of course, I went home, ate, then went and visited Fabio at Ölstofan, and stayed there till closing, flirting with cute girls and drinking beer, effectively negating all positive health aspects of the day. Perfect day all told I reckon!)
