Ísafjörður rest day - Swamp Soccer

Pictures are at the bottom...

We had a day in Ísafjörður before returning to the real world in Reykjavík. We'd heard that the European Championships in Swamp Soccer were taking place this weekend, and the day before, we'd gone out to the site, but missed the last games of the day.

For our day of rest, we dined leisurely in a bakery, and then strolled around the town, taking pictures and enjoying the sun for a while, before heading out to the field of battle. This was truly a spectacular event. I would really like to get a team together for next years event. We need about 15 people. Teams are 6 on the field, playing two 8 minute halves, on a very very swampy field. Unlimited substitution, and you will play as many as 5 games a day. Soccer playing skills not essential, stamina and general fitness very essential!

We strolled around the fields, trying not to get tooo muddy ourselves, generally just enjoying the show. We ran into Alda there, who had been spending the weekend with her parents.

There's really not that much that can be said about this event, the pictures pretty much speak for themselves.

We drove home after the last game, enjoying a fabulous sunset, and generally just enjoying the view. We even saw a couple of whales near Súðavík.
